Edit the menus and see your change live

Use this page when you need to change what appears in the site menus: the Shop, Services and Connect mega-menus on desktop, the mobile menu, the footer link columns, or the category grid on the home page.

Most of these menus are not built in a menu editor. They are built from your content pages, and the theme decides which pages appear, in what order and how deep. The mega-menus, mobile menu and footer are also stored for up to 24 hours, so a correct change can look as if it did nothing.

The menu button reads Connect, but the content type behind it is still learn.

Level 4 and deeper are never shown in any menu.

Steps

1. Add, remove or reorder a Shop, Services or Connect item

  1. Open the category (Shop) or the content page (Services or Connect) in the cPanel.
  2. To put it in the menu, make sure Active is ticked and the page is set to show on the menu. A page that is active but not set to show on the menu is left out. For example, the Wholesale service page and six level 2 Roof Racks categories (Roof Baskets, Mounts & Legs and others) are active but hidden this way (2026-10-20 pull).
  3. To move it, change Sort Order. Higher numbers come first. Pages with the same Sort Order are listed by name, A to Z. Roof Racks (Sort Order 100) sits above Current Promotions (1), and every category on 0 follows in alphabetical order.
  4. To place it under a parent, set the parent page. The level it lands on decides where it shows (see the table above).
  5. Save.

How each menu treats an item:

  • Shop, desktop. A level 1 category with subcategories becomes a tab. It does not link anywhere itself; the panel gets a See All [name] link instead. A level 1 category with no subcategories is a plain link. The first level 1 item that has subcategories is open when the menu opens.
  • Services, desktop. Same as Shop, but the extra link reads Explore [name], and each level 2 item shows its own Alt image 1 above its name. Level 3 service pages appear on mobile only.
  • Connect, desktop. Only level 1 pages show, as plain links. Their child pages are not shown on desktop. The right side always shows the brand tiles (step 4).
  • Mobile. A parent item opens its list instead of linking, and the first entry in that list is See All [name]. Connect on mobile also ends with an Our Brands link to the Brands page (/brands/).

2. Set the content panel image (Shop and Services)

Each level 1 tab in Shop and Services has a panel on the right showing one linked image and title. It comes from the level 1 page’s own related content.

  1. Open the level 1 category (Shop) or level 1 service page (Services).
  2. In Related Content, add the content page you want promoted.
  3. Open that related page and make sure it has an Alt image 1 (alt_1), uploaded at 450 × 450.
  4. Save both.

What the panel uses:

  • The related page’s Alt image 1, its name as the heading, and a link to it.
  • On desktop the square image is cropped to 3:2 (the theme sizes it as 450 × 300), losing a little off the top and bottom. Keep the subject in the middle.
  • On mobile the same image shows as a strip 120 px high across the full width, with the title printed over it. Keep the subject centred and avoid text in the image.
  • Only one related item is shown. The theme does not choose which one if you add several.

Connect has no content panel on desktop. On mobile, a Connect level 1 page with child pages does show a panel from its related content, if it has any.

3. Set the fallback panel (Shop and Services)

If a level 1 tab has no related content, the desktop panel falls back to a single page chosen in a content zone. Mobile has no fallback: the panel is simply left out.

MenuContent zoneCurrently points to
Shopshop_menu_contentThe Accessory Fitment & Solutions service page (content ID 117)
Servicesserve_menu_contentThe Contact Altapac page (content ID 223)

There is no fallback zone for Connect.

  1. Go to Content Zones and open shop_menu_content or serve_menu_content.
  2. Switch the editor to source view and delete everything in it.
  3. Type the content ID of the page you want, and nothing else. For example: 117.
  4. Save.

4. Change the brand tiles in Connect

The right side of the Connect menu on desktop shows up to 11 brands and then an Explore More tile that links to /brands/. Each brand tile uses the brand page’s Alt image 1, cropped to 3:1.

  1. Decide which 11 brands should show.
  2. Give those brands the highest Sort Order values, each one different. The live order today starts Rhino-Rack (99), Yakima (98), Thule (97).
  3. Make sure each of those brand pages has an Alt image 1 that still reads when cropped to a wide 3:1 strip. Brand images are square (9 of the 11 shown on 21 October 2026 are 450 × 450), so the tile shows only the middle third of the height.
  4. Save.

Brands are sorted by Sort Order only. The theme does not ask for a name order when two brands share a number, so a tie for the 11th place can go either way. Today Lightforce and EGR are both on 1 and only EGR is shown.

The Explore More tile and the mobile Our Brands link both go to the Brands page (content ID 153, /brands/). The mobile link finds the page by its ID, so it follows a URL change. The desktop Explore More tile is fixed to /brands/, so changing that page’s URL breaks it.

The footer link columns come from the Menu Manager menu web_footer.

  1. Open Menu Manager and edit web_footer.
  2. Each level 1 item is a column heading. It is printed as plain text, not a link, so the URL you give it is not used (not live yet, AUD-84).
  3. Each level 2 item under it is a link in that column.
  4. Save.

Rules:

  • Desktop fits 3 columns in a row. A fourth level 1 item starts a second row underneath. On phones the columns stack.
  • Level 3 items are not shown.
  • The current columns are Service, About Us and Information.

6. Edit the home page category grid

The icon grid on the home page comes from the Menu Manager menu category_grid. Only level 1 items are shown. This grid is not cached, so changes show without the 24-hour wait.

7. Check your change live

  1. Open the site in a private window.
  2. If the change is in the category grid, it should show straight away.
  3. If the change is in the mega-menu, the mobile menu or the footer, the old version shows until the cache is cleared, or for up to 24 hours.
  4. If it still has not appeared after a cache clear or 24 hours, go back through the “What breaks” list below.

What breaks

Every one of these fails silently: the page saves and no error appears.

SymptomLikely cause

For developers

Theme files this page is based on

From Altapac-ReDev, branch development:

  • src/templates/headers/includes/components/desk-Menu.template.html: desktop mega-menus. Cache type:'cmenu' id:'web_deskmenu-v2' ttl:'86400'. Shop content_menu content_type:'category' sortby:'sortorder,name' show_empty:'0'; Services content_type:'services' ... show_empty:'1' (no *level_3); Connect content_type:'learn' ... show_empty:'1' (*level_1 never prints [@next_level@]). Brand tiles content_type:'brand' sortby:'sortorder' show_empty:'0' limit:'11', shown because [@level2learnlist@] is never set. Related panel list type:'content' filter:'related_content=[@content_id@]' limit:'1'; fallback zones shop_menu_content and serve_menu_content passed straight to show_content id:. Fallback link bug: [@url@] inside show_content *body resolves to the level 1 item’s URL (lines 64-78 and 175-189).
  • src/templates/headers/includes/components/mobile-Menu.template.html: mobile menu. Cache type:'cmenu' id:'web_burgermenu-v2' ttl:'86400'. Same three content_menu calls with levels 1-3; related panel with no fallback; “Our Brands” is [%url type:'page' id:'153' /%].
  • src/templates/footers/template.html: footer. Cache type:'menu' id:'footer-content-menu' ttl:'86400' around [%menu id:'web_footer'%]; each level 1 is col-md-4 inside a col-md-8 row.
  • src/templates/cms/home.template.html: [%menu id:'category_grid'%], not cached. Icons are /assets/images/homepage/grid/s_icon[@hierarchy@].png and l_icon[@hierarchy@].png; live [@hierarchy@] renders as the zero-padded position (001, 002, …).
  • src/templates/cms/category.template.html: related cards list ... related_content=[@content_id@] limit:'4', inside [%if [@content_description1@]%] and [%if [@content_label1@]%].
  • src/templates/cms/includes/sidebar.template.html: two more 24-hour caches, cmenu/sidebar-category and menu/sidebar-info (web_information). Both menus are hidden with display: none !important, so they do not affect staff.
  • src/css/custom.css: .megamenu .megamenu-content img (aspect-ratio 3/2), img.lvl2-image (3/1), .burger-menu .megamenu-content img (height 120px).

A template deploy does not clear a [%cache%] entry. To force a fresh menu after a template change, re-key the cache id (as was done with the -v2 suffix). .claude/skills/base-templating/references/caching.md still lists the old ids web_deskmenu and web_burgermenu and old sidebar line numbers.
